Owner / Director
Erica Newsom is the owner/director of Charm's Dance Studio. She is a 2010 Graduate of Santa Fe High School and received an Associate of Arts Degree from College of the Mainland. She began taking studio dance at age 3 and started competing at local and national competitions at the age of 6. Through her 15 years of studio dance she attended Tap, Jazz, Lyrical, Ballet, & Hip Hop classes. She competed many Jazz, Tap, & Lyrical solos. Erica became a Santa Fe Tribal Belle her Freshman year of High School. She held the officer positions of Line Lieutenant, Major, and led the squad as Colonel her Senior year. Through her four years of Tribal Belles, she received many awards such as Rookie of the Year, All Star Dancer, Outstanding Officer, an invitation to participate in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York and many 1st division awards for her solos and duets she competed. She danced professionally as a member of the Houston Rockets Power Dancers for 3 seasons where she made numerous appearances and performed at community events. Highlights included performing at the 2013 NBA All-Star Weekend where she had the opportunity to back up dance for Hip Hop artist, Ludacris & B.o.B.
Erica has been a dance instructor for 12 years and is now starting her 4th year as Owner of CDS. During the past 3 seasons her competition routines have received top honors and numerous "1st Overall" awards.
Whitney Everette is the Assistant Director of Charm’s Dance Studio. She is a former member of the Deer Park High School Escorts Drill Team, and Lyrical Company where she graduated from in 2012 Magna Cum Laude. She was elected University Dance and Theater Co- President for the University of Houston at the end of 2012. She began Gymnastics at the age of 4 and switched to dancing at the age of 6. She danced professionally as a member of the Houston Rockets Power Dancers for the 2013-2014 season. As an ambassador for the Houston Rockets she had appearances throughout the community and was given the opportunity to back up dance for Rob Bass. In the Summer of 2014 she joined Correlation Dance Crew and attended Hip Hop Internationals in Las Vegas as the only group to represent Houston Texas at the competition. In 2017 she auditioned against thousands of dancers to perform during the Superbowl that was held in Houston and went on to be selected as a part of The Super Bowl Experience, where she got to meet and dance for John Legend, Pit Bull, Snoop Dog and Lady Gaga. Experienced in Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Pointe, Lyrical, Modern, Contemporary, Hip Hop, Street Jazz, Gymnastics, Zumba, Cumbia, Bachata and Drill Team, and Bilingual (Spanish- English) she has 18+ years of experience and loves to teach.
Whitney has been an Instructor and Choreographer for 9 years and is beginning her 4th year at CDS. Her dancers/routines have competed at multiple regional and national competitions receiving various awards for style, technique and overall placement including the studio’s first ever Large Group 1st Overall for Hip-Hop. She hopes to share her knowledge with all her students and inspire them to be good people.
Senior Staff / Office
Andrea Rodriguez started dancing at the age of three. She first started dancing at Royal Academy of Fine Arts and then went off to the McAdams Junior High Royals Dance Team her 8th grade year. Going in to high school, she became a Dickinson Diamond “in training” her freshmen year and then became a Dickinson Diamond her sophomore and junior year. She served as military officer her junior year as Jr. Lieutenant. Andrea has received many awards throughout her dancing years such as, dancer girl of the week, officer of the week, and dancer girl of month. She was also a studio dancer and instructor throughout her high school years. Andrea graduated in 2014 from Dickinson High School and is currently going to San Jacinto College- South campus. Experienced in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Hip hop, Modern & Drill.
Emily Grygier is a dancer and artist from Pearland, Texas. She has been classically trained in ballet since the age of four, and has performed many prestigious roles including the Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker, the Peasant Pas de Deux in Giselle, and Lillian in the original ballet Danver’s Lilly. She was accepted into the Bolshoi Ballet Summer Intensive, and was accepted into and attended the Joffrey Midwest Summer Intensive. Although ballet is her favorite dance style, she is also proficient in Aerial, Ballroom, Tap, Jazz, Modern, Contemporary, and Lyrical. She has been a dance instructor for eight years. Emily graduated from St. Gregory’s University with a Bachelor of Arts in Dance as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Art. Emily was an instructor at the St. Gregory’s University Dance Academy for four years, and served as the Assistant Director and Director her Junior and Senior years respectively. She danced with Spirit and Sole Dance Ensemble as a Principal Dancer, and had the opportunity to attend and perform at the American College Dance Association Conference for three years in a row. While attending St. Gregory’s University, Emily served as the President of Alpha Psi Omega, the nationally recognized Performing Arts Honors Society. She received numerous awards, including the Outstanding Visual and Performing Arts Student Award in 2012, and the Outstanding Visual and Performing Arts Senior Award in 2015.

Brittany Hanks is a 2008 Graduate of Santa Fe High School and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English with a minor in Education from the University of Houston in 2012. She began teaching English at Santa Fe High School while continuing her education, earning a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction for Reading in 2014. Brittany began her dance & cheerleading career as a Brave’s Mascot in 1994 and continued with the Brave’s organization through 2002. She was a member of the Santa Fe Junior High Cheerleading Squad her 8th grade year until she traded in her Pom Poms for Jazz shoes. In 2004, she started at Universal Dance studio as a student in preparation for Tribal Belle Auditions. Brittany became a Santa Fe Tribal Belle her Freshman year of High School and held the officer positions of 2nd Lieutenant, Major, and Lieutenant Colonel. Brittany has been a dance instructor for 9 years with Universal Dance Studio, where she was the Assistant Director for 4 years. During her time with UDS, her competition routines have received top honors and numerous Top 10 Overall awards. She is excited to continue with Charm's for her 2nd season.
Brayleigh Macaluso, 11 years old, started dancing in 2010 at 4 years of age at Universal Dance Studio learning Ballet and Tap in the preschool class. She is now part of the Senior Company at Charms and is very excited about joining the staff and teaching the preschool class where she first started her dance career. Some of Brayleigh’s accomplishments include receiving many platinum and overall awards for her solos and group numbers at competitions. She was also invited to the Hall of Fame Nationals Competition in Las Vegas 2016 where Brayleigh competed her solo and received a high gold 1st place for her age group. She has also had the pleasure of attending many dance workshops and conventions that have helped improve her skill level. Brayleigh is very excited to be joining the charms dance staff with others who share her love for dance.
Faith has been learning and developing her skills in the beautiful art of dance since age three when she first took interest. Throughout the studious years her passion has only intensified, as have her abilities. Both under competition pressure and recital thrills, Faith has performed routines in a variety of styles. Awe instilled at a young age, Faith has continued to grow tremendously in both dance and in becoming the person she most wants to be
Madelynn is 11yrs old with a total of 8 years of combined dance history including this year being her 3rd year in senior company. She has won numerous awards from her solos, duets and group dances. Her strongest passion is Tap although experienced in Jazz, Contemporary, Lyrical and Hip Hop. She is proud to announce that 2018-2019 will be her first year teaching as an assistant dance instructor for CDS. She is proud to be part of the CDS family - Dance team and is looking forward to another award winning year.
